Here at Scoil Mhólinge we operate a school Credit Union. This is run by Marie Ryan and Jackie Delahunty and they collect savings every Wednesday morning at 9.20am.

Every child is given their own credit union book so they can see their savings increasing every week.

Teaching children the importance of money choices and about saving money are essential parts of learning and growing. If children develop good financial skills from an early age they will be better prepared for the financial challenges they will face in the future.

It is important to teach children to save regularly no matter how small the amount is, this helps develop a savings habit.

It also helps to set saving goals, this might be a short term goal something that the child can save to buy after a few weeks or a long term goal something bigger or spending money for that summer holiday. It is easier for the child to save if they know what they are saving for.
